Research Report No.42 The Role of Primary School Teacher in Religious Socialization by Omduean Soadmanee, Noklek Sukthinthai 1985 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This study aims to analyze the role conflict and the socializing of religious values to the students of Bangkok primary school teachers. In this field study, 84 teachers from schools under the Office of Bangkok Primary School Education and 116 teachers from Schools under Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Office were selected as samples. The samples were asked to complete a set of questionnaires to find out two sets of role conflict. The firest set was the conflict between teachers' engaged obligations and desired obligations, the second set was the conflict betwen teachers' engaged rights and disired rights. Another variables such as teacher placement, sex, age, educational level, years of teaching, teachers' religious values, self-concept, and the socializing of religious values to the students were analyzed. The results came out as follows : 1. Teachers from schools under Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Office indicated conflict between engaged obligations and desired obligation higher degree than teachers from schools under the Office of Bangkok Primary School Education. 2. Teachers from schools under Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Office indicated conflict between engaged rights and disired rights higher degree than teachers from school under the office of Bangkok Primary School Education. 3. Years of teaching was found to be related to the socializing of religious values to the students. 4. The Role conflict of teachers from schools under Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Office was found to be related to the Socializing of religious values to the students. 5. Self-concept was found to be related to right conflict but not to obligation conflict. 6. Teachers who were different in socializing of religious values to the students were not different in self-concept. 7. Teachers from schools under Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Office who were different in socializing of religious values to the students had different levels of religious values. The ones who indicated a lower level of socializing the religious values to the students had higher level of religious values than teachers who indicated a median level of socializing the religious values to the students. 8. The teachers had high level of socializing religious values to the students. Comparing teachers from different types of placement, it was found that a greater members of teachers from schools under the Office of Bangkok Primary School Education (69.1%) had middle and high level of socializing the religious values to the students as for teachers from schools under Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Office, it was found that 55% of them had middle and high level of socializing the religious values to the students. 9.
