Research Report No.35 Value of Rural People : Comparative of Material Value and Traditional Value by Penkhae Prachonpachanuk Omduen Soadmanee (1986) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Purposes 1. To investigate the impact of modernization on the rural Thai people such as the (impact of) the adoption of environmental modernization, i.e., housing condition, level of living ete. change in material value and traditional value. 2. To examine the changing level of material value and traditional value of rural Thai people. 3. To determine whether there is relationship between material value and traditional value. Methodology 1. Two groups of sample which were selected from the villages in the central part of Thailand by modernization indicators included 161, 78 from modernized villages and 83 from the traditional villages. 2. The heads of the households were the respondents of the questionnaire on values of rural Thai people which consisted of personal background, their both investigated values, modernization characteristics and opinions on external environment. 3. The difference of subjects in modernized villages and traditional villages was analyzed. Conclusion 1. No finding as hypothesized that more modernized rural Thai people. 2. There was low level in modernized and traditional values among less modernized rural Thai people. 3. No finding as hypothesized that gender, age and educational level have influence on the difference of both investigated values.
