Research Report No.28 Population Value of Migrational Women by Penkhae Prachonpachanuk 1983 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Purposes of the Study The purposes of the study were as follows : 1. To investigate the relationship between migration and value on population. 2. To compare the relationship between the way of life and the value of migrational women. 3. To find out the model of rural women migrantion, return migrantion and mass migration. Sample The sample was drawn from 135 women living at the Klongtoey slum who was on employed and unemployed woman. Methodlogy The value questionnaire was an open-ended types. It was conducted based on three parts, 20 items. The data obtained were categorized and put into tables. Comparisons were made between working and non-working women for each items. Invovating and conservative types of migration were identified. Main findings The results revealed that the most women migrants had positive on econmic status in Bangkok. Economic reasons were most frequently stated concerning place of settlement. The working women were more satisfaction on Bangkok environment than non-working women. As to the number of children, and of women migrants had an average of about 2-3 children. Everthough nearly all of the migrants knew about family planning and birth control from various sources, most notably from hospitals, newspapers and radios. Most were satisfied with the number and sex of the children they had. Thus rural women migrants findings revealed that did not really want to have a large family as traditionally expected of rural people. Women migrants had have conservative migration by economic factors and did not want to return migration. But some non- working woman had tended to move again.
