Bungon Thepthiah. 1995. Characteristics of Head Ward and Contigency of Group as Correlates of Effectiveness of Work in Physical Health Care Hospital of Department Medicine Services Ministry of Public Health in Bangkok. Dissertation, M.S. (Behavioral Science) Behavioral Science Research Institute. This study had three purposes. First it was the study of comparison between the suitable and unsuitable group head ward about what the difference of working effeciency they were. Second it was the study of the predictive quanlity between the sick head ward in working effeciency and his effectiveness of subordinates by using the variable of the Contigency Model of Leadership Effectiveness of Fiedler' s and the problem solving behavior by seperating the biological social character of the sick head ward. Third it was study of the interaction between the variable of the Contigency Model of Leadership Effectiveness of Fiedler' s ; problem solving behavior and biological social character in working effeciency of the sick head ward and the effectiveness of subordinates head ward by using the sick head ward and the nurse supervisors who worked in the hospital of department Medicine service Ministry of Public Health in Bangkok for the study group. There were 190 persons in this study 150 sick head wards, and 40 nurses supervisors. The study variables were devided into; 1) problem solving behavior , the style of leadership, the group situation that consisted of leader- member relationship, task-structure, power position and biological social characters; age, officail age, leader time and highest certifieate, 2) depentdent variables composed of 2 variables. : leader effectiveness and group effectiveness. This field study were used to collect data by questionnire which devided into two part. The first questionnaire used head ward test which comsisted of 6 section : There were the biological social characters questionnaire, The style of leadership questionnaire, leader-member, relationships questionnaire, task-structure questionnaire that have two part. The frist one had 10 questions and the other one had 2 questions, power position questionnaire and The problem solving behavior questionnaire. The second questionnaire used for supervisors test ; comsisted of 2 paper questions which were about the working effeciency of the head ward questionnaire and the working effeciency of group subordinates questionnaire. Basic statistics, Correlation, Two way analysis of variance,t-tesy, and stepwise Multiple Regession analysis were used to analysis these data. The finding indicated that 1. Form the study between suitable and unsuitable group leaders in working effeciency were different. it was found that had the suitable leader was higher in working effectiveness than the unsuitable group leaders ; specially the older leader, more official age and Bachelor' s degree education. but it couldn' t find in another group. About the working effeciency of subordinates it found that the suitable group leader was higher working effeciency than the unsuitable group leader. This effect found in the corrected group; age, official age, working time and bachelor' s degree. but it didn' t find in others. 2. The variables pertaining to fiedler' s theory could best perdict the leader effectiveness in subsample and subsample are different predictor. Furthemore, it was found that the variable postion power not predice leader effectiveness. As for effectiveness of group. It was found that the task-structure variables predictor group effectiveness in total sample by predict 7.47 persent and subsample that found are different predictor. but the style of leadership variables were not found perdict group effectiveness. 3. The variables problem solving combined the 4 variables from Fiedler' s theory were ability power predict leader effectiveness add 3.09 persent and group effectiveness add .10 persent in total sample. In addition: subsample were ability power predict leader effectiveness and group effectiveness add in total group. but could not found predict in leader have bachelor' s degree education. 4. These was significant interaction between the suitable and problem solving behavior. It was found that the suitable variable and very fit problem solving behavior were significantly more group effectiveness than the unsuitable variable and little fit problem solving behavior. In addition. It was found that the suitable variable were add work effectiveness by found that the suitable variable were significantly more group effectiveness than the unsuitable variable. As for, The study interaction between leader-fit units and leader time position that found not interaction. but the suitable variable were significantly more group effectiveness than the unsuitable variable. | SWU | | BSRI |
