Parichat Tantiwat. 1995. A Study of individual factors and Job Satisfaction as Relating to Intention to Leave Nursing Service in Bangkok at Medical Department, the Ministry of Public Health. The purpoe of this study was fourfold: 1) to compare intention to leave nursing service according to bio-social characteristics or job satisfaction 2) to examine the interaction between bio-social characteristecs and job satisfaction 3) to examine the relationship between job satisfaction and intention to leave 4) to search for factors which could predict intention to leave. In this field study, the sample consised of 450 nurses working in Bangkok at Medical Department, the Ministry of Public Health. The questionnaire consisted of 3 parts The first part was about bio-social characteristics. The second part was to measure job satisfaction. The third part was to measure intention to leave. The statistics used in analyzing these data were one-way and two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), t-test, correlation coefficient, multiple regression analysis. The major findings conld be summarized as follows: 1. Nurses aged under forty with a bachelor degree or above with less than ten year work experience and low job satisfaction had a significantly higher intention to leave at .05 level than those over forty years old with less than a bachelor degree and more than ten year work experience together with higher job satisfaction. 2. There was no interaction between bio-social characteristics and job satisfaction in intention to leave. 3. Job satisfaction was found to be negatively correlated with intention to leave (r= -.46) it was statistically significant at .05. 4. Six important predictors of intention to leave were found to be job advancement, type of work, age, working condition, salary and benefits, and security. All variables accounted for 37.3% of the variance which was statistically significant at .05. In conclusion, the findings indicated that bio-social characteristics and job satisfaction were important predictors for intention to leave nursing service in Bangkok at Medical Department, the Mininstry of Public Health. | SWU | | BSRI |
