Yot Ampornratana. 1993. The Effect of Delay of Gratification and Social Reinforcement on Appropriate Eating Habit of Prathomsuksa V Pupils. Dissertation, M.S. (Behavioral Science) Behavioral Science Research Institute. The main purpose of this research were to examine the effect of delay of gratification and social reinforcement on appropriate eating habit in the whole group of subjects and in subgroups divided by scores on locus of control and appropriate health belive scales. The sample of this study consisted of 64 prathomsuksa V pupils from Watsamennaree school, in academic year 1992 under the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration. According to locus of control scale scores, the 25% top was adentified as the high group on locus of control and the 25% bottom as the low group. The same manner was used to select the high and the low group on appropriate health belive. From each of the four groups, the pupils were randomly put in 3 experimental groups and 1control group, so that each group contained 4 pupils from high locus of control, 4 pupils from low locus of control, 4 pupils from high apporopriate health belive and 4 pupils from low appropriate health belive. Therefore each group had 16 pupils. The measuring instuments used in this research were locus of control scale, appropriate health belive scale and appropriate eating habit scale. The following instuments were also used : delay of gratification training package, social reinforcement guide, the class activities guide for pupils who received only social reinforcement, for pupils who neither recieved delay of gratification traning nor social reinforcement. The first experimental group received both delay of gratification training and social reinforcement. The second experimental group received only delay of gratification training. The third experimental group received only social reinforcement. The control group received no treatment. The expeiment lasted 12 days, each group spent 12 periods altogether, each period lasted 20 minutes. At the end of the experiment, and two weeks after follow up 2 weeks after, the subjects were measureed by using the appropriate eating habit scale. The data analysis was made using two-way and three-way anlysis of variance. The sheffe' s method of multiple comparisons were applied. Research results were as follows : 1. The appropriate eating habit behavior was found to be significantly different among the 3 experimental groups, at the level of .01. The group that received both delay of gratification training and social reinforcement had the average score higher than the other two expeimental groups. And the mentional three groups had the average scores higher than the control groups. The follow up scores were found to be in the same manner. 2. The group of pupils with high locus of control scores had the appropriate eating habit behavior scores higher than the group of pupils with low locus of control scored after received both or either one of delay of gratification and social reinforcement at the level of .01. 3. The group of pupils with high locus of control scores had the appropriate health belive scores higher than the group of pupils with low locus of control scored after received both or either one of delat of gratification and social reinforcement at the level of .01. | SWU | | BSRI |
