The Study on variables related to decision-making for self-care in illness of The Thai rural people in changwat Konkhaen contained two main purposes. The first one was to find out whether the Thai rural people used the information from professional health sector in decision-making for self-care in illness or not. The second one was to study the psychological and sociololgical variables related to this decision-making for self-care in illness. 240 heads of household in more developed areas, moderated developed areas and less developed areas in Phol District, Konkhaen, were drawn by multistage random sampling technique for the study. The questionairs on the internal locus of control, self-responsibility, beliefs in cureing oneself by using folk-care sector, economic capacity, participation in health activities, information from mass-media, training experience and decision-making in self-care in illness, were used to collect the data. The data were analyzed by the computer in SPSS (PC) program. The main results came out as follows:- 1. Decision-making for self-care in illness. 1.1 There was 52.5 % of the Thai rural people in Chungwat Konkhaen who had decision-making for self-care in illness by using more information from professional health sector and 47.5 % used less information. 1.2 In the group where less information from the professional health sector were used, the samples cured themselves by buying the medicine, relaxing, and family care. The reasons for not using the information from the professional health sector were habit, time problem, cost of medicine and following the neighbor' s guidance. 2. The samples who lived in areas with different stages of development had no significantly different (.05 level) in decision-making for self-care in illness. 3. The sample who were different in ecconomic capacity, has no singnificantly different (.05 level) in decision-making for self-care in illness. 4. Internal locus of control had positive relationship with decision-making for self-care in illness at .001 level 5. Self-Responsibility had positive relationship with decision-making for self-care in illnees at .001 level 6. Belief in curing oneself by using folk-care sector had negative relationship with decision-making for self-care in illness at .001 level 7. Participation in health activities had positive relationship with decision-making for self-care in illness at .001 level 8. Training experience had positive relationship with decision-making for self-care in illness at .001 level 9. Information from mass-media had positive relationship with decision-making for self-care in illness at .001 level
